As many of us know, Target is a dangerous place for teachers! They get us right when we walk in with the “Dollar Spot” and it just gets worse the deeper we go into the store. But there are some AMAZING finds that I love using in my classroom to enhance learning.
Here are my top 4 “Party Favors” from Target that I use in my Guided Reading Groups!
Star Pointers: These “magic wands” are great for my beginning readers when we are really focusing on touching each word at a time. We also use them when reading non-fiction to find text features like label words, page numbers, bold titles, etc.
Laser Lights: Little lights that slip right on a child’s finger, yes please! These lights are great for finding sight words in our reading. We turn off the lights, hunt for those special words and reading has never been so fun!
Colorful Glasses: My favorite way to use these glasses are when we are learning about picture cues. I tell my kiddos that as soon as they wear the glasses, their eyes will zoom in on a clue in the pictures that will help them figure out words. It works like a charm.
Little Cars: I use these cars when I have students that need extra practice in breaking down individual sounds in a word. When they have a problem word that they need help “sounding” out we will put the cars in a line and then drive each car forward for every sound that we hear. It is a great way to incorporate visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning. Click on the picture to watch a video of a student using the little cars!
I hope that some of these items can help you enhance your reading groups or other learning in your classroom! I would also love to hear how you use other “Target Finds”!
